Stadlandet was heavily affected by the German occupation during the 2nd World War when the peninsula became part of the Atlantic Wall.
With a fortress installation at Hovden in Ervik, a prisoner camp associated with it, Northern Europe’s largest radar installation on the mountain plateau Kjerringa and a large fortress installation at Storeneset in Tungevåg, Stadlandet transformed from a peaceful coastal community to an area with nearly 1000 German soldiers.
On this trip you will encounter 94 meter-long tunnel that the Germans blasted out of the mountain, along with side passages for ammunition storage and access to a guard hut and the cannon emplacement. Within this area, three large 10.5 cannons were deployed , and Luftwaffe units also operated here. This installation had in total 130-150 personnel.
